“We can let the circumstances of our lives harden us so that we become increasingly resentful and afraid, or we can let them soften us, and make us kinder. You always have the choice.” ― Dalai Lama.

Moving toward painful situations and becoming intimate with pain can open up our hearts in ways we never before imagined. Learning how not to run away, but staying open to everything we experience, letting the sharpness of difficult times pierce us to the heart, open us, humble us, and make us wise and more brave. This wisdom is always available to us, but we usually block it with habitual patterns rooted in fear.

Beyond that fear lies a state of open-heartedness and tenderness, for us to awaken and accept ourselves and others complete with goodness, faults and imperfections. By and by, we come to a larger sense of who we essentially are, so that we become more grounded in our deeper nature and live with greater awareness, authenticity, compassion, flow and see through the strategies of our ego that cause us to resist life as it is.

Eventually, we come to see that every experience and every difficulty provides its own kind of spiritual opportunity to connect with ourselves more deeply.
